The Third Annual Feria de la Capirotada in Ajijic

I came home on Friday so I could go to the Feria de la Capirotada on Saturday. It was exciting. Hundreds of people were there. This year it was held at the malecon. It is the third annual one. Capirotada is like a bread pudding, made during lent. Everyone makes it a little differently. At the feria they gave out samples and you could also buy some. I will be writing about it for Accesslakechapala.com. If you are more interested in it, check that site in a few days.

The photo above is of the man who organized it, Lee Hopper. Thank you Lee. It was great fun.

More photos of areas around San Blas

I was trying to get some photos of the yaka trees but we were going too fast. I am not sure if those are the yaka trees in the background or not.

More photos of the area around San Blas

The photo above is of one of my favorite meals while there. We ate in a very small restaurant in Santa Cruz, next to where the school children were waiting for the vans to pick them up.

The photo above is of the inside of that restaurant but we ate outside.

Above is their menu.

Children were waiting for this van to show up. It looks like there are a lot of these new vans that travel around now from town to town. Sure beats years ago when Pat and I used to take the smoky old buses. I remember one even had a hole on the floor by where we were sitting and we could watch the road below. Times have changed there.

Photos of the new road going into the area near San Blas

This is the cut off to the new highway which is already bringing in more people to the area. I have a feeling that San Blas will never be the same with this easy route. Instead of driving an hour and a half through the jungle you can now drive less than half an hour straight down from Tepic. It took them six years to make this road.

The photo above is a sidewalk and a bike path along the new road.

Road construction. It is difficult do drive this for now. Pat seems to believe that they are trying to get it done before the Easter crowds come roaring into town.
